A recent report by the Toronto Region Board of Trade, named Calgary second only to Paris in the world for prosperity. Calgary’s consistent economic growth kept us near the top of the list in most areas. But here are some reasons (as outlined in the report), that we outperformed many of the 24 cities surveyed.
• Best income growth of any city
• Ranked second in employment growth
• Ranked first overall in human capital: employment, diversity, health and safety, higher education
The report stated:
“Calgary’s consistent economic performance keeps it near the top on many indicators, with best results on income growth, where it outperforms all 24 metros, and on employment growth, where it is second, behind the rapidly-growing Shanghai economy.”

You’ve been hearing it a lot lately: Calgary is a seller’s market right now. While this time is traditionally favourable to buyers, we’re not yet dealing with those kinds of conditions. There’s still a tighter inventory than we’re traditionally used to at this time of year, and it’s definitely working in favour of sellers.
Jarome Iginla’s gorgeous Elboya home made headlines yesterday when it sold for the entire asking price, in just one day! This gorgeous estate property went for $3.95 million, and buyers didn’t hesitate to snatch that up in a hurry. Perhaps Iginla’s star power in this city was partially at hand as well. But we do know that the luxury home market in Calgary is doing incredibly well also.
But let’s look at another example of seller success:
Recently one of our agents, Jimmy Olandesca, sold a condo in the Xenex building on 12th, in only 5 hours! Not only did the property sell incredibly fast, there was more than one offer on it, and it ended up going for 99% of the asking price.
