Best Neighbourhoods: Riverbend

Recently, Avenue Magazine released their annual list of Calgary’s Best Neighbourhoods, a ranking of the top 50 communities as voted on by Calgarians. We decided to take a closer look at the communities in the top 10, and give you some insight on what to see and do there.

In the number eight spot is the southeast community of Riverbend, which is bounded by Glenmore Trail, 24 Street and Deerfoot Trail.

  • Population: 9,612
  • Density/People per sq. km: 2,344
  • Homeowners: 91%
  • Median tax assessment of residential property, 2016: $421,000

According to Avenue Magazine, the top ranking qualities of Riverbend are:

  • Parks/pathways: Carburn Park is a hot spot for recreation and nature lovers alike, with over 135 hectares of parkland and pathways. Residents here also have very easy access to the Bow River.
  • Access to major roads: with close proximity to Deerfoot and Glenmore Trails, transportation and accessibility is easy.
  • Playgrounds: there’s a number of quality and family-friendly playgrounds in and around the Riverbend community.

Enjoy the largest ponds in the Parks system. Although ponds by definition are usually constructed bodies of water, they compliment the park’s natural surroundings. Take a stroll down one stretch of narrow nature trail and enjoy a large pond on one side and the fast flowing waters of the river on the other, providing a pleasant contrast between natural and constructed environments.
