Calgary’s Best Neighbourhoods: Brentwood


Recently, Avenue Magazine released their annual list of Calgary’s Best Neighbourhoods, a ranking of the top 50 communities as voted on by Calgarians. We decided to take a closer look at the communities in the top 10, and give you some insight on what to see and do there.

In the number two spot, is the northwest community of Brentwood. This community is bounded by Crowchild Trail, John Laurie Boulevard, Shaganappi Trail and Nose Hill Park.

  • Population: 6,941
  • Density/People per sq. km: 2,393
  • Homeowners: 66%
  • Median tax assessment of residential property, 2016: $518,000

According to the Avenue Magazine study, here’s the top ranking qualities of Brentwood:

  • Recreation: the biggest asset to this community is Nose Hill Park, the second largest urban park in Canada. You can walk, hike, cycle or take part in a number of recreational activities there. In addition, the City of Calgary has many recreation and aquatic facilities nearby.
  • Schools: Brentwood Elementary School is just one of the schools within the area, many schools are within walking distance for residents.
  • Drug stores:
  • Community engagement: residents of this community have the Brentwood Community Association, which keeps engagement high in the neighbourhood.
  • Boutiques: In addition to Brentwood Village Shopping Centre, you can find many small local businesses scattered throughout this community.
  • Grocery stores: both Safeway and Co-op are located conveniently within the community on Brentwood Road NW.
  • Restaurants/Cafes/Bars: some community favourites include Jameson’s Irish Pub, and Kilkenny.
