Calgary’s Best: Brentwood

The verdict is in, Avenue Magazine released the rankings of Calgary’s Best Neighbourhoods, and over the coming weeks, we are going to delve into the investment opportunity and benefits of each of the top 10 communities.

In the number four spot, is the northwest community of Brentwood:

  • 7,133 population
  • 59 walk score
  • 57 transit score
  • 122.81 crime rate
  • 2 off-leash parks

Brentwood is a well-rounded community in Calgary’s northwest; situated between Crowchild Trail, Shaganappi Trail and Nose Hill Park, and is 2.9 square kilometres. Brentwood’s close proximity to transit, major roads and the University of Calgary, make it a popular choice for a variety of Calgarians. Natural green spaces, parks and shopping are all within close reach in Brentwood. As for investment opportunity, them media assessed property value is $495,000, down over 4.5 per cent from last year. However, this is in no way a reflection of the area but a reflection on the economy.

Some of the notable perks as ranked in the survey (overall ranking compared to all communities in Calgary):

  • Access to parks and pathways: 15th overall
  • Walkability: 59 out of 185
  • Community engagement: 54 out of 185

Brentwood is a perennial strong finisher in the Best Neighbourhoods survey, which makes sense since it has many similar attributes to this year’s number-one, Varsity. Brentwood sits just across Crowchild Trail to the north of Varsity, positioning it to be walkable to the University of Calgary and just a zip of a commute downtown, either by car or C-Train from Brentwood station. Residents include a mix of old-timers and young families and everyone in between, with a vibrant university-student population, as well. [Avenue Magazine]
