How to sell your home during Autumn months

September 22nd marks the first day of Autumn, and you may be surprised to learn that this is actually a popular time for home sellers to hit the market. Many people look to list their homes this time of year so they can get moving over and done with before snow blankets the ground.

It’s also the same reason many buyers come out looking this time of year too. If you want to your property to stand out among others, here’s some season-sensitive tips for selling in autumn.

  • Get your fall landscaping done: leaves in your yard will just make your outdoor space look cluttered, and ultimately smaller than it actually is. Invest some time into raking and landscaping.
  • Use seasonal outdoor decor: get into the season and up your curb appeal by complementing your outdoor spaces with fall decor: wreaths, pumpkins, etc.
  • Wash your windows: get your windows cleaned, either by yourself or with the help of a professional. First impressions matter, and with excess moisture this time of year, you don’t want water spots to ruin a perfectly good opportunity to impress a prospective buyer.
  • Prepare your HVAC for winter use: the furnace likely hasn’t been used much (or at all) since the summer months, so make sure you have the unit cleaned and possibly inspected by a professional. You want everything in perfect working order before showings happen.
  • Work with a REALTOR®: open houses have been proven to be helpful ways to generate interest for properties (especially with special touches added), and the best way to do that is really with a professional who knows what they are doing. Further to that, pricing your property right the first time is what will ultimately result in success or failure in a competitive market.
