How to save money during Calgary Stampede 2019

Whether you’re from Calgary or you’re visiting from out of town, the Calgary Stampede is a must. The rodeo, rides and unique food options are all something you simply can’t miss this July. However, the deterrent for most people is the price, and we’re here to help you enjoy the festivities without breaking the bank. Check out these tips to keep your bank account happy without missing out on all the fun this year:

  • Head over to Safeway, Sobeys or IGA to pick up a Ride-All-Day card. They cost $37.85 and can be exchanged at the Stampede for 60 coupons or a Ride-All-Day wristband. This covers all the rides, games and the Westjet Skyride.
  • Circle K has the Coca Cola 2 promotion running all Stampede long. You can get two general admission passes and two 500ml Coke products for $27.00. With over 30 per cent in savings, this is a lifesaver.
  • CO-OP is offering $9.00 off Stampede admission if you spend $5.00 on any Coca Cola product.
  • You can save 20 per cent on Stampede Bucks at participating Costco locations. Get $50.00 in Stampede bucks for only $39.99. Stampede Bucks can be used on admission, rides, rodeo tickets and reserved evening show tickets.
  • Between the Coke Stage and the Big Four building, you’ll find a re-creation of a Calgary street circa 1912 called Weadickville. All of the vendors have specially priced items that you can purchase with pocket change – the perfect place to kick back, relax and enjoy the best-priced food and drink on the grounds.
  • Before you head to the grounds, find a pancake breakfast near your home and take advantage of the free food and festivities.
  • Parking can be expensive and difficult to find down at the Stampede, so take advantage of the C-train that runs right to Victoria Park, mere steps away from the main entrance to the grounds.
  • Everyone wants to try as much of the food as possible when it comes to Stampede. It’s odd and intriguing, something you only get to try once a year. Your best bet to avoid spending all your money on food is to find an adventurous friend to share it with. Most of the items are big enough to split, allowing you to pay half price for something you may or may not even like.
  • If you enjoy live music, check out the free concerts at the Coke stage this year. This line-up is pretty darn good.

Now that you’re going to be saving money left, right and centre, head down to the grounds for the full Calgary Stampede experience. Who knows, maybe going the rodeo is the exact thing you’ve been missing from your life. Grab your Stampede Bucks and make sure to try everything at least once – this event only comes around once a year.
