Best Neighbourhoods: Bowness

Avenue Calgary has released their annual list of Calgary’s Best Neighbourhoods. They take into account restaurants, public recreation facilities, community engagement, green spaces, pathways, walk score and transit scores to determine which neighbourhood takes the cake and which leave something to be desired.

This year at number three, we have the community of Bowness. It boasts a number of really impressive statistics:

  • A population of just over 11,000.
  • Just under 2,000 people per square kilometre.
  • An average home value of $354,000.
  • A walk score of 57 and a transit score of 38.

Bowness is located in the northwest quadrant of Calgary along the Bow River and 16th Avenue. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for a quick getaway to the mountains or just a day trip to WinSport, which can be seen right from your backyard. One of the perks of Bowness is that it’s tucked away enough to see little traffic, but has easy access to Market Mall, the University of Calgary and the Bow River Pathway system running through the entire city.

This quaint neighbourhood also has a beautiful main drag with local businesses and restaurants that give off a small-town vibe that can be hard to find in a city as big as Calgary. While it has all the major players in terms of shopping, you can also find small boutiques and diners alongside them.

If you’re looking for that small-town feel without leaving the city, Bowness should be your next home. There are a number of houses in all price points available right now:
