Recycling Options for Condo Dwellers

Currently condo buildings in Calgary are not part of the City’s recycling plan, so the City of Calgary is working hard to remind Calgarians who live in condos, what their options are. There are over 40 recycling locations in Calgary, open 24-hours a day. These recycling centres take the following:

  • Plastics with the recycling symbol 1-7 (excluding Polystyrene)
  • Plastic bags
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Glass jars and bottles
  • Metal food cans and foil
  • Beverage containers

“The city continues to operate 48 community recycling depots throughout Calgary,” says waste division specialist Philippa Wagner.

“In addition, multi-family residential complexes can also find local private service providers at www.recyclinghotline.ca, a listing service maintained by the Recycling Council of Alberta.”

“We are currently engaging stakeholders in the recycling and multi-family residential sectors in order to develop strategy options for residents who live in condo and apartment-style housing,” she says.
