Did the Flooding Boost Calgary Luxury Home Sales?

An apparent boom in luxury home sales this month, has been attributed to the affects of post-flooding, according to several real estate experts.

Already this month our city has set a new record, four homes sold over $4 million in one month (and the month isn’t even over yet). From July 1 to 9, there have already been 26 homes sold in Calgary for over $1 million each. The all-time record for luxury sales in July was back in 2007, when 61 homes over $1 million sold. But with these numbers so early in the month, it’s not impossible.

Homeowners living in flood-ravaged luxury communities, fled elsewhere, possibly fueling this boom. According to CREB, many high-end homes sold within days of the flooding in our city.

While there’s no way to really confirm where these luxury homebuyers came from, it’s either an interesting trend or a strange coincidence. Either way, our city is experiencing a boost in luxury home sales.
