If a property is deemed to be a marijuana grow-op, the home must complete the process of remediation. The following is a checklist of the process, as per Alberta Health Services (AHS) requirements.
Phase 1
– Obtain copy of Executive Officer’s Order from AHS- Hire contractors (environmental consultant and remediation contractor)
– Contractors must obtain written permission from Executive Officer of AHS prior to entering premises
– Contractors must prepare detailed assessment and scope of work based on inspections, prior to carrying out work inside
– Hire a qualified electrician to repair deficiencies
– Hire a qualified plumber/gas fitter to repair defects
– Apply for required permits to City of Calgary
– Submit detailed Assessment and Scope of Work report to AHS
– Request inspection by City of Calgary
– Reinstate gas and electricity
– Reinstate water
– Flush plumbing and water lines
– Submit water bacteriological sample for analysis
Phase 2
– Ensure remediation is completed by contractors
– Hire companies to inspect and clean furnace, hot water tank and fireplace
– Contractors arrange for air sampling
– Submit documents to AHS for review and acceptance
Phase 3
– Complete renovations
– Lifting of order by AHS
