An underground fire over the weekend caused a blackout in downtown Calgary that has affected thousands. The outage continues to affect the blocks between 5 and 11 Street SW, and 4 and 7 avenue SW. Enmax and the City of Calgary continue to send updates about the situation, but here’s what you need to know:
- 3.5 kilometres of damaged/destroyed cable has been removed from the underground area.
- Power is expected to be back to the affected area by mid-day on Thursday
- An information centre has been setup for those affected, at Mewata Armoury
Rather than just replace what was damaged, we’re actually taking this opportunity to upgrade the system so that the system comes back stronger.
We are targeting to have the power back on by mid-day on Thursday – but this is based on what we know at this moment. Situations may come up as part of the repair that could change our estimated timeline, but we will keep you up-to-date with any new information. [Enmax]
