Colder temperatures will soon hit us (though we’ve been lucky thus far), and you’ll want to re-familiarize yourself with your furnace. Here are some tips for troubleshooting your furnace:
Ensure your furnace is set to ‘heat’: while this sounds like common sense, apparently it’s a common mistake made by homeowners.
Check your filters: filters are the most common cause of furnace problems, so ensure you always check that filters are clean and in good working order.
Check electricity: ensure there’s electricity getting to your furnace. A good way to test is turn on the fan, if it goes on, there’s electricity getting to the furnace.
Check the breaker: if your problem is still persisting, you can always check the breaker to ensure the switch for the furnace is still on.
Check the gas valve: it’s not a bad idea to make sure the gas valve is still turned on and nothing has been tampered with there.
If after all this, your furnace is still giving you issues, then it’s time to call in a professional.
