Less than three weeks until the big day – eek! Christmas is a wonderful time of year to spend your days with friends and family, usually in your home. Whether you’re having a small dinner with close family or you’re hosting a three-day event for all your extended relatives, it’s time to start thinking about how you want to present your home to guests. Here are our top holiday tips:
Card Display
‘Tis the season for Christmas cards and annual family photographs to start arriving in the mail. A few are always great, but once the tenth one arrives you start thinking ‘where will I put all of these?!’ Make a Christmas card display out of red ribbon by stringing it up with thumbtacks and attaching the cards using small close pins. Simple yet elegant, and you can put this display on any wall you like!
Deck Your Halls
You know all those side, coffee and entryway tables that you have set up around the house? Let’s decorate them! If you already have the supplies, it’s time to pack up your décor and set them up Christmas-style. Alternatively, you simply add festive decorations to your regular décor. Perhaps you add a Santa hat to your wooden moose statue or wrap tinsel around your lamps.
Christmas Present Bowl
Just like Halloween, you create a small bowl of wrapped presents for guests to indulge in when they enter your home. If you’re feeling generous, you can make a kid’s bowl and an adult’s bowl. For kids, we recommend candy, puzzles, stickers and small toys. For the adults, perhaps you can wrap chocolates, mini-alcohol bottles, treats or keychains for a Christmas surprise.
Reduce, Reuse, Rejoice!
Christmas is all about giving, celebrating and of course decorating! However, it can get expensive to redecorate each year and continually add to your Christmas stockpile. Try to save money this year and reuse some items that you already have. Instead of buying a new tree skirt, try using an old apron with a fun pattern. Throughout the year, save gift bags and ribbon from old presents so that they can be used during the holiday season. Adding a bright red bow or strip of Christmas-themed wrapping paper can give it that holiday feel at a fraction of the cost.
Christmas Plants
Poinsettias and baby ferns are great, but what if you already have a TON of plants at home? Dress up your pre-existing plants in festive wear so they fit into their surroundings. Add tinsel to the base, place them on a Christmas-themed box or add an ornament to their branches. Do whatever you can to dress these cuties up in their Christmas best – they’ll fit in no time.
Set the tone for home entertaining this holiday season with a few new tricks up your sleeve. Your guests won’t know what hit them when they walk into your decked-out home with unique décor and presents galore!
