Taking advantage of the holiday season: home staging tips

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… almost! With the holidays right around the corner, we can feel the anticipation growing as eager neighbours start to decorate their yards, businesses pull out the tinsel and restaurants feature their holiday brews. As a rule of thumb, we like to use December 1stas the official ‘Christmas Decorating Day.’ If you’re looking for new home decor ideas or perhaps to unify a Christmas theme in your home this year, check out six ways to stage your home and create that fun Christmas atmosphere this holiday season.

  1. Cozy, Cozy

When you think of Christmas, you think of snuggling up in a blanket in a warm house drinking hot chocolate sitting by the fire, right?! If you have all these things, great! If not, through on a pair of slippers and turn up the thermostat a few degrees this holiday to create that warm, inviting Christmas feeling.

  1. Seasonal Scents

Christmas is often remembered most by the familiar smells of baking and holiday activities. Gingerbread, shortbread, fruitcake, roasting turkey – the holiday season is really just all about food, isn’t it?! Brew yourself a warm apple cider to fill the air with enticing spice or light up a wintergreen candle for that ‘real tree’ smell. You and your guests will be feeling festive in no time.

  1. Out(door) Décor

One of the most iconic Christmas decorating areas: the front door. Adorn with wreaths, tinsel, branches and bows, the front door is the face of your home. How you decorate it sets the tone for how each and every person will feel when they enter your home. Christmas lights are also an easy way to decorate the outside of your home and spread Christmas cheer throughout the neighbourhood.

  1. Christmas Colours

Festive colours tend to be bright, bold shades of red and green, something that may not go with your current colour scheme. Choose a colour this year that suits your home décor so that you don’t have to fully pack up your living room for the season. Instead, choose neutral decorations, perhaps with glitter or a light accent, to bring out the festive feel without overtaking your current décor.

  1. Holiday Ornaments

Let Christmas take over your living space! Decorate your home with beautiful wall hangings, handmade trinkets and multi-coloured tinsel to bring your home to life this holiday season. There are plenty of tasteful ornaments found at home stores or Christmas markets made by local makers so that you can find just the right decorations for your style.

There are countless ways to decorate one’s home for Christmas – that is why it’s so special. Each and every home will be decorated according to personal taste, smelling of their own seasonal fragrance of pine, apple spice, gingerbread, pumpkin – you name it!

Enjoy the holidays – and your home – the way you want to this Christmas season!
