A new condo resolution system has been introduced in Alberta, that will help thousands of condo owners avoid legal fees and save time in condo disputes.
“Everyday, hard-working Albertans who live in a condominium can’t afford $200 or $300 or $500 an hour to pay a lawyer.”
It’s common for condo owners to disagree with other condo owners and condo boards on issues ranging from parking spots to fees. “Owners can have disputes with one another over things like noise complaints and even odours coming from another unit.” – Calgary Herald
The new system will allow condo owners to pay what the government calls a ‘reasonable fee’ to have disputes heard before an adjudicator. The purpose is to not only save owners time and money, but keep a lot of these issues out of the courts. This is the first of many changes coming to Alberta, following earlier feedback from Albertans on current condo bylaws.
