Last year’s flood played a big role in Calgary’s increased real estate market, CREB is reporting this week that residential sales and listings are up in double-digit rates compared to last year.

“Last June was not a normal month, so it’s difficult to compare the two,” said CREB® president Bill Kirk. “The historic floods of 2013 forced residents and business owners from their homes and places of work. It’s not surprising that many Calgarians were not focused on purchasing or listing their home at that time.” – CREB

Here’s a glance at the residential real estate market in Calgary last month:

  • Sales totalled 2,670 units last month, up 18% from last year
  • Total sales for first half of 2014 is 13,929 units, up from 12,257 last year
  • New listings totalled 3,814 units last month
