The first urban off-leash dog park is coming to the Beltline community in Calgary this year. Downtown dog owners will soon have a place where they can let their pets run, as half of the redevelopment of Connaught Park will be devoted to dogs.

The park is on the corner of 14 Avenue and 11 Street SW, and after public consultations, the detailed designs for the revamp are already underway.

The off-leash area will be fully fenced and roughly the size of a hockey arena. No firm timelines are in place at this time but construction is tentatively slated for later this year.

“There’s definitely dog owners that live within the Beltline community but there’s not a designated place to take their dogs, so a lot of what we’re finding is they’re driving to these other parks,” [Jason] Jones said (Project Manager). “This offers a walkable option.”
